Hugs 'n Kisses Iron-On EPP Papers – 5/8" Hexagons | EPP26

Take the fiddly part out of English Paper Piecing with these clever Hugs 'n Kisses Iron-On EPP Papers! These precision-cut 5/8" hexagons ( used in Tussie Mussie pattern) have a light glue coating on one side, so instead of basting your fabric around ordinary paper templates, you simply iron each shape onto the wrong side of your fabric. Cut around it with roughly a 1/4" seam allowance, fold or glue the seam allowance over the paper, and stitch your hexagons together by hand or machine.

And here's the clever bit — you don't need to remove the papers when your EPP is finished. The papers are made from Hugs 'n Kisses appliqué paper, which is 50% water soluble. Once your finished project is washed, the stiffening component dissolves away, leaving soft natural fibres safely within your quilt. That makes these particularly handy for tiny 5/8" hexies where removing traditional papers can be fiddly! An acrylic template for fussy cutting is available here.

How to use:

1. Place the iron-on paper, glue side down, on the wrong side of your fabric.
2. Press with a warm iron to fuse it in place.
3. Cut around the shape, leaving approximately a 1/4" seam allowance.
4. Fold or glue the seam allowance over the template.
5. Stitch your hexagons together as you would with traditional EPP.
6. Leave the papers in your finished project — they soften and partially dissolve when washed.
